Question of the Day...

Today I took Reecie to Petco in Cumming for the Humane Society's weekly adoption event. Having to answer questions about her demeanor and habits was easy, but countless times I was stomped- What breed is Reecie?

Great question. The Humane Society wants me to tell people she's a Pit Bull/ Rottweiler mix. (Never!) No offense to either breeds (or the Humane Society) but why would I advertise the two breeds that have the worst reputations in a dog that already is having a hard time finding a home. It is mind blowing to see the difference when I tell people that she is a Shepard mix, as opposed to a Pit/ Rotti mix. I ended up leaving the adoption even early because of the negative response my sweet baby was getting. So this completely negative experience raised the question for me, Why does the breed of the dog outweigh all individual characteristics of the dog.
I had blonde hair growing up and I'm not a "dumb blonde. Yet Reecie because of her lean build and golden eyebrows was completely shunned at the adoption event. No one would approach her, moms went out of their way to herd their children away from where we were sitting.
I would open this blog up for discussion- What breed do you think Reecie is? but it would do no good. Everyone has a different opinion. I say she's a Mutt (maybe a lab/shepard/ rottweiler/ german shepard combo?) but it doesnt matter, if you aren't a purse-size puppy or pure breed you are out of luck.

Reecie is a great dog! She's super trainable, very quick learner, and a great companion. She loves her roommate cat, Dale, and watching the horses in the back yard. With the help of the Gentle Leader, she loves to go on walks at the park. She loves sleeping in HER bed or just laying on the floor while I read. She's house-broken and mellow. In my opinion- she's the perfect dog (minus growling at other dogs but we are working on that), but Adam and I pledged to not adopt no matter how tempting it is.
